Romans 3:23 tells us that all people have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God. Certainly this applies those who have harmed themselves, their loved ones, and especially their spirits due to substance abuse. Alcoholics and addicts are wracked with guilt and regret and shame and this can make it more difficult to face that there is a problem.

The good news is that the power of Christ can and will cleanse sufferers from all unrighteousness (John 1:9). When honestly and sincerely called upon, God's love and mercy replaces active addiction with inner peace.

In order for the process of recovery to begin, many alcoholics and addicts need to understand that self-will and self-reliance instead of reliance upon God has caused great damage to work, friendships, family dynamics, finances, and health. Denial is unfortunately a powerful part of active addiction. The love of family and friends, the love of Christ, and the firm guiding hand of our licensed and certified Christian interventionists can break this denial and break the destructive cycle of addiction.
